Welcome to Action Canada

Imagine a nationwide network of young Canadians whose exceptional talents, experiences and perspectives represent the entire mosaic of Canadian culture. Who all understand how to lead, how to achieve and how to succeed. Who recognize that they can make a difference to their country — and who support each other to do so.

This is the Action Canada Network, born of a vision in 2002 to establish a fellowship program to build leadership for Canada’s future.

Each year we select up to 20 emerging Canadian leaders who join our 11-month leadership development and public policy program.

Our goals are to enhance the Fellows’ leadership skills, enrich their understanding of Canada and establish a network of Fellows who will work beyond their fellowship year to support each other in making our country the best it can be.

During the program, Fellows learn and interact with current leaders in government, business, NGOs and academia. They undertake public policy projects of significance to Canada. And they participate in six intensive three-to-four day working conferences (scheduled around weekends) in Vancouver, Ottawa and other locations across Canada. At the same time, Fellows continue with their regular employment or other endeavours in which they are engaged.

Funded through a partnership between the private sector and the Government of Canada, Action Canada is an investment in young, highly motivated Canadians who already have begun to demonstrate leadership.

Our Action Canada Fellows say that their fellowship year was an unforgettable experience, one that has had a profoundly transformative effect on their will and ability to turn ideas into action.

“I can count on one hand the experiences in my career that I view as transformative. Action Canada is certainly one of them. I have been exposed to new ideas, developed new skills, and met incredible people. I was challenged and inspired. It has been an invaluable opportunity.”
