2010 Fellows’ Op-Ed Articles

Action Canada 2010 Fellows' Op-Ed ArticlesIn each fellowship year since 2005, eminent Canadian journalists and editors have worked with Fellows on their commentary writing skills. In 2010/2011, Fellows benefited from the expertise of journalists Manon Cornellier, John Fraser, Stephen Hume, Jacquie McNish, Antonia Maioni, and Jeffrey Simpson. Andrew Cohen, Professor of Journalism and International Affairs, Carleton University, leads our op-ed writing program.

This writing exercise illustrates for the Fellows an effective method by which to engage with the public on a policy issue and to contribute to enhancing civic society. As a result of this focused leadership skill module, many of the Fellows’ op-ed articles each year, are published in major Canadian media outlets. In 2010/2011 Fellows’ pieces were published in the Globe and Mail, Corporate Knights, the Vancouver Sun, and the Ottawa Citizen.

We are pleased to present this compilation of the 2010 Fellows’ opinion editorials. They demonstrate how this group of emerging leaders views major issues facing our country in relation to the fellowship year theme of Economic Transformations: Challenges and Opportunities for Canada—what policies should Canada implement to succeed as a strong nation?
