Northern Conference Papers
Each year Action Canada introduces Fellows to the opportunities, challenges and beauty of Canada’s North. Our northern conferences have included visits to Haida Gwaii, B.C., Kluane National Park, Yukon; Nain, Labrador, and Kugluktuk, Nunavut. Fellows have also traveled to the most remote Canadian Forces base, at Alert, Nunavut, and experienced the Northwest Passage aboard the iconic Canadian Coast Guard icebreaker, the Louis S. St-Laurent.
Fellows learn about northern history and traditions, and examine three local policy issues before hosting a community public dialogue to further explore these topics.
To prepare Fellows, Action Canada has been commissioning Northern Policy Papers from recognized experts since 2011. These papers provide context and varied perspectives, helping Fellows better understand Northern Canada.
